Commercial Hypermedia Product

I chose an interactive storybook. Interactive storybooks are useful in the classroom because it keeps the students active and engaged. Interactive storybooks allow the students to keep their hands busy as well as be entertained by the material presented. Interactive storybooks can be found in various forms. There are websites as well as apps that provide free interactive storybooks. This particular site features several themes for students to choose from and is aimed at beginning readers. The students are also given an option between English and Spanish. This would be a great resource for an English learner learning how to understand a new language.
Chosen Multimedia Authoring Tool

For my Multimedia Authoring Tool, I chose virtual environments. I think the most beneficial use of this resource would be the ability to go on virtual field trips. Students learn about many settings and events during elementary school, but it is not realistic to expect our students to imagine the correct setting through vague descriptions or expect them to be financially able to go and experience these places first hand. Virtual tours expose students to actual settings of events and educational settings they may not be exposed to otherwise. This will engage the students and help them to build connections to the material.

  1. I totally agree with you about how useful Interactive Storybooks are! There are so many different ways to use them within classrooms, I love how you and I both wrote about Interactive Storybooks, but our ways of using them are totally different. I love how your website provided stories in English as well as in Spanish. I think this would be a great tool to use for ELL's. I also think it would allow English speaking students to hear another language, sparking possible interest to learn a new language.

I also love your idea about the virtual field trips. Nowadays, many schools do not have the funding or opportunities to go on real field trips, with this website, that would make it possible for those lower income schools! Thinking about virtual field trips, gave me an idea for a social studies lesson, possibly have a virtual "time travel" back to a time period the class is learning about. I think that would be a cool way to spark their interest within the lesson.

Great Job Brittney, I enjoyed your blog once again.

  2. Interactive storybooks are awesome! I love them. You are definitely right about keeping students busy while reading. Interactive storybooks are engaging and attention grabbing. Students will definitely enjoy the usage of them in your classroom.

Virtual field trips are really I interesting. I took one this summer in a class and really enjoyed it. You are correct about money just not being abundant for trips anymore, so this is the next best thing. There are also games you can play with google maps, which are super fun!

    Great ideas!
